Abby's Eyes

One of my dedicated readers [ :>) ] asked if I could post about Abby's eyes. Since I haven't written about it in a while here is her update (and back story)... those of you who are in the day-to-day loop can skip this one.

At birth Abby's eyes were very crossed, which is normal for small babies (even normal for any newborn). It went away for the most part but when she was tired we noticed that they would drift in towards her nose. Everything was fine until about Christmas when they started to cross again. Around January I decided that we needed to see someone about it (our pedi kept telling us it would probably resolve on it's own) and was referred to a neuro-ophthalmologist at CHOP. They did testing and a CT scan to make sure it was not due to fluid pressure on her brain and they found it was not. Our neuro-ophthalmologist sent us to a pediatric ophthalmologist/surgeon who diagnosed her with esotropia (a form of strabismus). They figure it is probably genetic since I had accomodative esotropia as a child (had patching and glasses at age 2). Because her eye crossing are so pronounced and so severe they decided to put her in glasses for a couple months and to schedule her for double eye muscle surgery. Our surgeon at CHOP is one of the best in the country and we fully trust his recommendations and abilities.

For now she happily wears her glasses ALL DAY. She never takes them off since she obviously sees so much better with them than without (her script is a 2.50... pretty strong). She is scheduled for surgery on May 2nd. We are not terribly worried but just can't wait to get it over with so our little angel can see better and straighter.

Also should add that we were not able to get Abby's X-Ray today. She was up all night coughing and we decided to wait until tomorrow or Saturday.

Thanks - I am so glad that she has the opportunity to get those pretty eyes facing front! Your children are beautiful.

About this blog

Over 8 years we have struggled through 3 IUI's, 6 rounds of IVF, several RE's, hundreds of appointments and the loss of three little angels. Now we find ourselves the proud parents of two perfect little girls and a wonderful little boy!!

Both of our girls struggle with some disabilities but that won't keep us down. Each day has it's own brand of insanity but we love it. Most days I am more monkey wrangler than mother but I do the best I can. Todays goal - getting to tomorrow.
