The question crossed my mind today, why the heck do I blog. I have never been the type to be on the cutting edge of technology. I still think abandoning the use of paper and pen is a mistake. Yet, here I sit, day after day, spilling my guts into cyberspace. Why the heck do we take part in this ritual of writing and reading these things. Why do I care how many people read it, or comment on it or read my profile? I have come up with a few potential reasons why. Here goes:
1. Egocentrism - One possibility is that a persons blog allows them the opportunity to describe the world according to them. With the exception of comments, it is all about ME. I tend not to be egocentric in my day-to-day life, so maybe this is my chance.
2. Daily Catharsis - A second thought is that by having a place to write down daily thoughts and occurrences, a blog allows us to let out all of what we deal with during the day. If I can't yell at my students, I can come home and post a bitchy blog post for the day.
3. Exhibitionism - Or is it that we, as humans, enjoy the opportunity to be "on-stage." Maybe we all secretly want everyone to know what is going on with us. Yet if we walked around broadcasting every detail of our life to all the people around us, they might avoid us at all costs.
4. Technology - My last thought on the topic (and yes, I realize this is a weak topic) is that maybe I just want to be a part of the bandwagon. If all the cool kids are blogging, then I want in.

5. Or is it that I just want to be like my dear, dear friend M??? :>)
