Egg Retrieval

Yesterday was pretty crummy. We were supposed to go in at 10:15, but I didn't get called til about 11:30 to start paperwork. So, I didn't get into the operation wing of the office til about noon. The nurse who put in my IV took several tries just to get it in and I bled all over. Once she had it in (crooked) it hurt like hell. I sat another 45 minutes before the embryologist came in and finally the anesthesiologist. They moved me to the operating room and usually they give you something to relax at that point. Instead they kept me wide awake to look at all the fun tools they would be using.

Once I finally went to sleep it was after 1 o'clock. When I woke up I felt like crap and they told me that they only got 10 eggs (compared with 14 last time). I had terrible cramps and bad back pain. I also think they used too big of a tube on my throat cause it hurts like hell, much worse than last time. Last time they gave me Tylenol with codeine. This time they sent me on my way and recommended Tylenol.

At that point I just wanted to go home and sleep. I had a hard time sleeping because of the pain. Yesterday, overall, was not a ton of fun. They called this am and told me that out of the 10 eggs they got, 8 were mature. Out of that 8 ONLY 6 FERTILIZED. :>( This friggin sucks. The whole point of not going back on the donor list was all the embies we were going to have to use and freeze. This is so freaking typical. We paid $1500 last time for 6 embies. This time it was more like $5500 and again, 6. Damn it.

Sorry....

Hopefully one of these 6 take, and then the low number of embies will be ok. Fingers crossed for you.

About this blog

Over 8 years we have struggled through 3 IUI's, 6 rounds of IVF, several RE's, hundreds of appointments and the loss of three little angels. Now we find ourselves the proud parents of two perfect little girls and a wonderful little boy!!

Both of our girls struggle with some disabilities but that won't keep us down. Each day has it's own brand of insanity but we love it. Most days I am more monkey wrangler than mother but I do the best I can. Todays goal - getting to tomorrow.
