Lots of time on my hands

Well, I spoke with my boss a little while ago. He has been trying to get ahold of me all day. Turns out that he and the Dean think that it would be best if I don't teach this semester. He said that the babies should come first and our health is more important than anything else. He even cited Julia Roberts need for bedrest as evidence. I know that a big part of it is that they don't want to get halfway through the semester and have no one to teach the class. So, I am now unemployed. I did bring it on myself cause I was up front about what might happen (bedrest, limited mobility, etc.). I had decided to let my bosses decide for me whether I should even teach this semester. As an adjunct I am not granted FMLA or maternity leave. So I am just SOL.

It would seem like a few months off would be great, but it just sucks. I love my job, I love my students and I love having something important to do every day. Instead I get to be a bump on a log. I hate sitting idle and having nothing to do. On top of it we were counting on my income to save some money before these babies were born.

Anyone have any idea for how a pregnant woman can make money?? :>)

Are you crafty? I remember on my ff buddy group, there were a bunch of us who were on bed rest, and the best ideas always seemed to surround craftiness - something you could paint/knit/sew/etc. and sell on ebay or something similar.

Uhmm sell belly shots on your belly? No - probably not a good idea... Got things you can sell on ebay? That may help in the short term... maybe apply for something part time at a baby or maternity store - that again would at least help a bit to give you something to do as well as maybe get you a discount for those babies that are on the way.

Ohhhhh...crap. Didn't see this one coming at all. Sorry about that.

I agree w/ the others, especially on the subbing. You could always auction off the rights to name one (or both) of the tater tots on eBay too. ;) j/k

Oh, man that sucks! I'm a longtime lurker (from ff) and am so glad you're pg! (I'm doing ivf/icsi next month)
Being suddenly out of work sucks. You might enjoy it for a couple of weeks, then it gets old. May I suggest PT retail? And of course there's ebay... you could also sub. teach, or go to a temp service.
Congrats again on the tater tots- so happy they're doing well so far!

while it's nice to have time off, it sucks that it's without pay. Hmmm.... making money on the side? How about Avon?

Tutor or sub...you get to pick the days, times and it's cash :) OHN

I really hated to hear this - it seems very dishonest and sleezy for them to do this to you.

About this blog

Over 8 years we have struggled through 3 IUI's, 6 rounds of IVF, several RE's, hundreds of appointments and the loss of three little angels. Now we find ourselves the proud parents of two perfect little girls and a wonderful little boy!!

Both of our girls struggle with some disabilities but that won't keep us down. Each day has it's own brand of insanity but we love it. Most days I am more monkey wrangler than mother but I do the best I can. Todays goal - getting to tomorrow.
