Mastitis :>(

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. I have managed to come down with a nasty case of mastitis. It started on Sunday with a bit of pain in my boob. By Monday I had a fever, nausea, headache, and a sore red boob. (YUCK!) I went to the doc on Monday but couldn't get into my office so they sent me to another location. I got a terrible doc who told me to stop nursing and pumping and take Cipro. I talked to my Mom and sister and they told me to keep pumping to drain the ducts.

Last night I had a 103 fever, chills, nausea, terrible headache and my boob was hard as a rock, wouldn't drain when I pumped and I had stringy stuff coming out when I pumped. I went back to my doc today and she said it was as bad a case as she had seen. She put me on another antibiotic and told me if it isn't better by tomorrow I need to go to the hospital for IV antibiotics. It has been such a terrible experience. I have so much pain (although I am on Tylenol 3 now, which helps tremendously) and have felt so sick.

I am praying that by tomorrow I will feel better so I can avoid the hospital routine.

Your family is correct... keep pumping. But before you pump get wet, warm cloths and apply to your chest and heat up the area before you start. It really helped me and allowed mroe to be drained off which was really a relief. Good luck.

Yuck! Hope that you're feeling better and avoid IV antibiotics today. Will cross my fingers that you're feeling 100% soon.

YIKES!!!!
I found pumping IN the hot shower helped drain when I had the clogged duct. That and Fenegreek. (sp?)
Loose the underwire if you are wearing an underwire nursing bra. shoot, loose the bras all together.
I know this sucks out loud.
Keep pumping...

About this blog

Over 8 years we have struggled through 3 IUI's, 6 rounds of IVF, several RE's, hundreds of appointments and the loss of three little angels. Now we find ourselves the proud parents of two perfect little girls and a wonderful little boy!!

Both of our girls struggle with some disabilities but that won't keep us down. Each day has it's own brand of insanity but we love it. Most days I am more monkey wrangler than mother but I do the best I can. Todays goal - getting to tomorrow.
