Since I have stopped working I have taken it upon myself to cut corners and save money wherever possible. One of the ways that I do that is being very vigilant about sales and coupons. I clip, trade, print and use coupons very religiously. What pisses me off is the way my coupon using is accepted (or rather not accepted) but the clerks at the stores. On several occassions I have had to explain to the checker that printed coupons are usable and that rebate checks (like for formula) are not a scam. I have recently had someone say to me "I just hate when people use coupons" as I am handing her a stack. So why is it that taking an extra 3 seconds out of their day (which saves me between $5 and $20 per trip) is such a big freaking deal. Coupons are a big help for families like ours and what it boils down to for me is DO YOUR DAMN JOB!
Ok, rant over!

I'm with you on the rebate checks for the formula....I don't know how many times we had to get the clerks to call managers over so that they could be told they were acceptable to use. Talk about annoying.
I agree, it is their job to take these coupons whether they like it or not. I've never had one comment back to me, but man, if they did, they'd see a sleep-deprived mommy attitude coming back at them!
Stupid people. That's why I use the self check out lanes as much as possible! I hate clerks and their attitudes. I've done it (worked as a grocery clerk) and I understand that it's not the best job. Whatever happened to customer service??
But you're right, they should just do their job. I had someone in line behind me bitch about me using coupons one of my last grocery trips. I just smiled as I saved myself something like $12. :)
I was with you ‘till “do your damn job.” That just seems a little cold.
Sorry to offend, just saying how I feel.
Our local stores are starting to get kind of iffy on whether they accept the internet coupons or not. I have found, at least in the case of our local supermarkets, my entire experience goes 100 times better if I start off by asking the clerk how his/her day is going. They're less critical of my couponing, and feel a little more appreciated, I think.
I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS make polite kind small talk with the cashier. I think it is rude not to and agree that that often will help. The world would be a nicer place if everyone would just say hi and ask how someone is doing.
