Baby Updates

Here are our 12 month updates:

Gracie - What can I say about the wildest, most active and stubborn child I have ever known... the girl has fire. She walks around the house with her finger waving in the air as if she is threatening me. She laughs when I tell her know. She climbs, jumps in her bed, does somersaults, throws things, breaks lamps and toys and rips books. I know it should annoy me more but sometimes I just have to laugh. I really and truly love a child who has a fierceness and fire in her spirit. No one is ever going to tell that girl no for good or for bad.

Grace is now drinking only soy milk (NO MORE FORMULA!!!!!!!!!!). We have started using sippy cups. She is eating everything and anything. Both babies are terrific eaters and love everything from veggies, to meats, to tofu. Her favorite things to do right now are walk around (with help), ride her princess car and change the TV station while Mommy yells at her.

She is weighing in just under 19 inches. She is almost wearing 12 month clothes... almost!

Abby - Now what can I say about this teeny tiny little bundle of happiness? Abs is the happiest most sweet natured child. She is happy playing quietly or watching TV for long periods of time. She is still LOVING the Backyardigans and has branched out to also watch Yo Gabba Gabba. Abby loves to be outside, especially swinging with her sister. She gets a kick out of watching Genna or the boys horse around. She is starting to want to get out and join in the fun so she is getting a little bit frustrated with being immobile.

She is doing awesome with her PT. Our therapist Yemi is hoping that she might be crawling in about 3 months! We are working right now on rolling over, putting some weight on all fours and going from laying to sitting. She is still very far behind but is finally making progress.

Abby is also drinking only soy milk. We are very glad to be rid of the formula. We have to make sure her caloric intake is high enough because she still weighs just under 17 pounds. She is a great eater and much prefers food to her milk. She is wearing 6-9 month clothes at this point.

Twin Stuff - Watching the girls unfold into these two opposite yet perfectly complimenting people is AMAZING. What one child lacks the other has extra. It is as if God made them two perfect halves of this whole. They have started playing together, laughing at each other and the "twin language" is developing in full force. They now do this thing where one starts making a noise and the other joins in. Then they get louder and louder until they are shouting and laughing. Sometimes I laugh so hard I cry. Being a twin Mom is the best! (Sorry parents of singletons, don't mean to offend... I am just loving my job as a Mom right now.)

I've been reading for some time and I have a suggestion for you about upping the babies' caloric intake: FuFu flour. I first ate Fufu when I was in Africa. It's likely not to irritate the allergies, as it is made of plantain, which is related to bananas. It's super high in calories and nutrition but tastes like a dumpling - in other words, it doesn't taste like much. It's easy to make and quick, too. I've used it as the noodles / dumplings in chicken soup. Also, you can use it to thicken thin soups. You can find it in any international market, and it isn't that expensive. Hope this will be a treat for the girls.

Thanks Emilie - I will try to find it!

About this blog

Over 8 years we have struggled through 3 IUI's, 6 rounds of IVF, several RE's, hundreds of appointments and the loss of three little angels. Now we find ourselves the proud parents of two perfect little girls and a wonderful little boy!!

Both of our girls struggle with some disabilities but that won't keep us down. Each day has it's own brand of insanity but we love it. Most days I am more monkey wrangler than mother but I do the best I can. Todays goal - getting to tomorrow.
