The girls and I were driving to the mall recently to meet Brian for lunch (he was at a training seminar nearby) and I was not in a particularly wonderful mood. I pulled my baseball cap down lower and turned up the radio in the front of the van. The girls were smart enough to take the hint and set in to talking to one another. I was paying no attention to what they were talking about for a good five minutes until their conversation turned heated.
I tuned back into my life (from whatever daydream of escaping to a remote island I was having) to hear one of the funniest arguments I have heard the girls have. It went something like this:
Abby - "No, I am older because I was borned first"
Grace - "No, I am older because I was borned last"
Abby - "No, Grace I AM OLDER"
Grace - "NO YOU ARE NOT"
When I finally intervened and explained that Abby is older by one minute but there are good things about being older and younger. They both smile satisfactorily and I thought I had done a good job. That's when Grace looked at Abby like a cat with a mouse and said "I told you I was older">
I think some battles just aren't worth fighting.
