For me the transfer process is simple. I drink 32 ounces of water before I arrive, I take my valium, I lay on the table, put my feet in the stirrups, have a little discomfort and then lay still for half an hour. Simple, right?
In actuality it is a fairly complex process. The embryologists have to choose the very best embryo(s). They have to prepare them using assisted hatching (placing a small drop of a chemical on the embryo to basically create a small opening which will help with implantation). The doctor has to find the very best spot in the uterine lining (with ultrasound guidance) and carefully complete the process of transferring the embryo(s).
All in all the entire procedure lasts about 1-2 hours. All it takes is an hour or two to go through this crazy, amazing process.
