We finally made it on the trip to the Poconos we have been planning for well over a year now. Bry and I bought tix for my Dad to take 3 laps around the track at Pocono raceway in a real stock car. This weekend was the first time we could all get there at the same time. As is usual with our luck, it POURED the whole way there. We figured he wouldn't get to race. Because of liability we assumed that they wouldn't allow anyone to race if the track was wet.
It finally stopped raining, so it was iffy as to whether they would race. We arrived at the track with gray skies and tons of winds. The track personnel was unsure whether the cars would be going for the 1:30 race time. As it turns out, the track staff invited us, along with about 30 other people to a "track drying party." We all got to get in our own cars and drive the real racetrack at almost 80 mph to help dry the track. All they told us was to put our blinkers and headlights on and wear our seatbelts. We got to follow a pace car so we knew what to do. At first we all drove in a nice, neat straight line. After a few lines we started to have a little fun. Hugging the walls, speeding up through curves, cruise along at pretty high speeds. We got to do like 15 laps. Bry drove and our nephews and I rode along. It was a blast. Who gets the chance to drive on a real racetrack.
