I mean my DIETING enemies. :D Losing weight over the past few months has really been in large part to identifying those food products that my body does not like. I have insulin resistance so I have come to realize that sugar and carbs are not my friend. We have been eating whole grain breads, brown rice, wheat pasta and things like that for years but I have not managed to lose weight. By just about giving up carbs and sugar I have made progress (20 pounds worth in fact. :D).
Over the past couple weeks there is one issue that I have been having some trouble with. I am trying to balance my no carb, no sugar diet with an organic and all natural diet. Right in between these two things is my personal debate of sugar versus splenda. Every morning I take splenda in my coffee. When we go to get water ice I happily order my sugar free (made with splenda) mango peach flavor while not feeling an ounce of guilt.
So here is my dilemma... if I am eating organic and all natural foods should I cut the artificial sweeter??? I don't eat a lot of it but I do have it every day (in coffee). I don't feed my kids artificial sweeteners but I eat them myself. I am two weeks into researching this topic and I am a little lost. I was hoping that since many of my readers are on the "organic train" maybe I could get some thoughts.
I appreciate any thoughts you want to share!

Well, I still use 1 sweet n low in my coffee every morning. I've been looking into the switch to something organic or natural. So I'm kind of right there with you. The girls don't get it, so why should I? The only thing I did cut out, 100% was aspartame...and Ive felt 110% better since I did that.
What other options do we have for our coffee? :)
you could try agave, but it doesn't have the same punch as sugar. I use sucanat, which is about as natural as sugar can get. Makes me feel a little better but I cannot do without sweet coffee and, like you, don't want to use artificial sweeteners. congrats on the weight loss--I'm feeling inspired. I've got 10 to go.
What about sugar in the raw (turbinado)? When I used to drink my coffee with sugar I went that route and enjoyed it.
Here's an excellent article on artificial sweeteners. Stevia is the most natural of the group, although I agree that you could also try agave.
