After dinner one night this week I was entrusted with the joy of cleaning up the dinner dishes. It is usually Brian and the girls job (since I cook) but Grace and Brian were finishing building the raised bed out back, Abby was playing with her Little People bus (and not playing one of her more "obsessive" games) and Genna was kind enough to wait to call her boyfriend until after dinner. As I scraped and rinsed and loaded I listened. I caught myself singing along to The Shins while smiling at the sound of Brian and Grace plotting how to screw in the last brackets. Abby vroomed her bus, "picking up" all of the students on their way to school. Over the clinking of dishes and the wooshing of the water in the sink it sounded like happiness. Children playing, Daddy's instructing, I Pod's singing... it doesn't get much better than that. Who knew doing the dishes could be so grounding. :D

Those moments are what helps to get us Moms through the rest of the stress. ;)
