While we turned down summer school for Abby we have decided to continue "summer school" here at home. When the girls started school I quickly began missing my daily opportunities to "teach" my kids. Their school days were so full or learning and crafts and lessons that they didn't have much time for my "lessons" at home. I have decided that the summer is my opportunity to pick up where the teachers leave off and have some fun with it.
So in that vain we are going to be learning about a different theme each week. We're going to include activites, trips, books, lessons and anything else we can think of.
Here is our "lesson plan" thus far
Week 1 - Birthdays (Since last week was birthday insanity for us it just fit)
Week 2 - Gardening / Farming
Week 3 - Stories / Fairy Tales
Week 4 - The Beach (since the following week is our vacation)
Week 5 - Off for Vacation
Week 6 - Music
Week 7 - Butterflies (we have caterpillars ordered for that week)
Week 8 - Wildlife
Week 9 - Sky / Space
Week 10 - Art
Week 11 - Sign Language
Week 12 - School
It has been so much fun making up their binders and thinking of cool ideas to bring home my points. Hopefully the girls don't get too bored of their Mom as a teacher. :D

you know, this is a great idea! Recently I've felt that my 3 year old has needed more in terms of education at home but I have no clue what to do and we can't afford summer school. I love the idea of picking a topic each week and just discovering that topic in whatever ways possible! You are so creative!
Anon - It's just the teacher in me. :D I made them each a binder and used excel to make spots to keep track of when we do a lesson, an activity, workbooks, coloring pages, a bible story and anything else in keeping with the theme. Then we made a spot at the end of each tab (tabs for each week) for what we learned each week. Then we can talk about what we did. Hopefully we keep our motivation. :D
